All of you know that Iowa got hit with a major storm named a Derecho on Aug. 10. Some of you probably already saw the video on Youtube that I posted last week about damage to the church.

We’ve had about a week and a half to clean up now and we’re done with most of it. There are still some smaller trees to trim on the edge of the parking lot. We found an electrician who will get us hooked up today or tomorrow. Some electricians say they are scheduling as much as 6 weeks out. There is still a lot of work to do in the community. Alliant Energy has been doing a very good job of putting up thousands of new poles and stringing up hundreds of miles of wire.

Some of our members have had some damage – roofs, siding, cars. Everyone lost power and Internet for a while. Of course, when you lose power for several days or more, all the food in the refrigerator and freezer has to get thrown out, unless you have a generator. More than 300 cell towers were damaged, so a lot of people had no use or limited use of their phones.

But in all of this, God was still with us. We only lost things, we didn’t lose anything more than that, and we didn’t lose Him. He is still our God and our Savior. When it seems like everything is falling apart, He gives us peace in Him. Below is a reminder message about that, and some pictures of the church.

After the storm and before cleanup.

In front of church.
Trees leaning onto the parking lot.
This caused a little damage to the roof.
The branch was pushing on the window, but thankfully didn’t break it.
A pine tree fell and took down our electric service.
The guilty tree.
We only had a little siding damage. A lot of people had more damage than this.

A few cleanup pictures. I didn’t take more because I was busy working! Thank you to everyone who helped clean up – Curtis, Sheila, Mark, three volunteers from Iowa District East, Susan, Stephen, Sarah, and Pastor Eckert.

Curtis was there with his generator and lots of equipment to cut up everything.
Sheila took a lot of debris from the back out to the curb.
The piles of branches along the street are ready to be picked up. We piled some more branches from the parking lot on here after this, so the piles got bigger.
